The 2019 AIM Awards, scheduled for September 3rd in Camden, will mark a major 20-year milestone for the Association of Independent Music. Over the past 8 years of the awards ceremony, the organization has crowned incredible artists such as Adele, Björk, Wolf Alice and Stormzy. The event will take place at the Roundhouse with Julie Adenuga, DJ Jamz Supernova and Carl Loben hosting the evening.
The nomination list is nothing short of fantastic as it honors the most influential independent artists, labels and industry people who shaped this year’s music landscape in the UK and beyond.
Many of The Orchard UK artists are taking over the nomination shortlist. UK Independent Breakthrough nominee Ezra Collective is on the rise, while Most Played New Independent Artist nominee Jorja Smith is setting the bar. Meanwhile, Arlo Parks is up for a nomination as One To Watch and John Grant’s “He’s Got His Mother’s Hips” is named in the Best Independent Video Category. Finally, Killing Moon has made the Best Small Label list.
AIM is also calling upon fans to choose their winner. In the Best Live Act category, concert-goers can choose their favorite live performance from acts like Christine and The Queens to Interpol. The Orchard’s artists and labels up for the prize are Black Honey, Cassia, Calpurnia, Dub Pistols and Nothing More.
In addition to the winners of the evening, Blondie’s Debbie Harry is set to accept an outstanding contribution nod. She responded in immense praise for the independent artist’s freedom and the community that “helps make that happen every day for artists.”
