What’s on YouTube… for Christmas?

youtube-holidaysWith Christmas and the end of 2016 just around the corner, now is the ideal time to give your YouTube channel a facelift for the holidays. Here are some ideas to help you make the most of your YouTube channel at one of the best times of the year in terms of user traffic and monetization.

Banner

First things first: give a warm welcome to your channel with an updated banner for the occasion.

Video Content

Tent-pole content
Christmas carols are the soundtrack of Christmas par excellence so why not create a video with the best popular carols to accompany the abundant meals and family dinners? A pseudo-video with a Christmas image — a fireplace, Christmas tree, Santa Claus… — would be ideal to sweeten those family moments.

Don’t forget to optimize the titles, descriptions and tags with keywords that users will be using when searching for this kind of content on YouTube. Can’t-miss keywords include: Christmas 2016, Christmas carols 2016, Christmas carols, etc. You can review some of our optimization recommendations here.

Kids content
It’s also good to have the youngest in the family entertained while they are waiting for Santa Claus to bring them presents. To ensure that your videos appear on the YouTube Kids app, don’t forget to optimize them using keywords like: cartoons, cartoons for kids, learn and laugh, entertainment for kids, educational content, and so on.

Playlists

Best of 2016 playlists
Year-end is the best time to recap and review the top videos of the last 12 months. You can create a playlist with your content exclusively or expand to include some third-party videos. The latter is a good way to buff up a playlist and can help attract more traffic, too.

Christmas parties
Carols are fine but not always adequate depending on the setting, so it’s important to be prepared when the occasion asks for more. The options are endless: you can create playlists by genre, by mood, by festivity, and more.

Last but not certainly not least, don’t forget to spread your Christmas love and share all your updates and creations on socials. Happy holidays, everyone!
