Listen to the Corridos of El Chapo Guzmán

chapoMany myths and legends have prevailed throughout history through the simple power of word of mouth. That is what Corridos are: the real stories of the land, of the bar, of the good and of the bad and sometimes of heroes.

Drug dealing began in Latin America decades ago, produced in South and Central America and traveling on the best distribution routes, by plane, by sea and even by “Mulas” (people who carry drugs inside their body). The goal is always to get to the most important market, the one that pays in U.S. dollars.

Freeloader Friday: RJD2, Matt Kivel & More

RJD2Happy 2016, everyone! Welcome to the first Freeloader Friday of the year. I’m Montana, and this is my inaugural Freeloader Friday. Thank you for joining me on this wild ride. It looks like we’ve got quite a few things to catch up on since we last heard from Adam, so let’s just jump in.

This week, RJD2 dropped his newest single “Peace of What” off his just-announced album Dame Fortune. I like to think of this song as the opening track to a movie where the star (me, of course) struts confidently to the beat down the streets of New York City. It’s the perfect confident-walking song! C’mon, you know what I mean. The track features the voice of Jordan Brown. His smooth + soulful tone is what ties this track together. This was the first time I really sat down with an RJD2 song, and I have to say I’m hooked.

Tips to Build a Successful Release Strategy

downloadAs we roll — read: run — into 2016, plans, projections, forecasts, schedules and targets are being drawn up. Whilst I now sit here as part of Team Orchard, I’ve found myself on the label side on numerous occasions at this time of year. It’s invigorating and exciting, as well it should be. Whilst it’s tricky, nigh impossible, to create a plan that could be utilized across every artist or release, there are a couple of words I would always adhere to when putting together a release strategy: planning & communication.
