19th Annual Manifestgalan Celebrates Swedish Independent Music

19th Annual Manifestgalan Celebrates Swedish Independent Music

The Swedish Manifest Awards (Manifestgalan) revealed their nominees for the 2022 ceremony. Since 2003, Manifestgalan has celebrated the best releases, artists, and companies from Sweden’s independent music sector. Congratulations to our partners who received over 20 nominations for this year’s ceremony! This year’s edition of the Manifesto Gala will take place February 11 at Nalen in Stockholm.

Stockholm-based songwriter and producer JÁNA (Majestic Casual) received a Soul/R&B nomination for her 7-track EP Works. Through a soundscape of lush guitars and minimal beats, JANA took a deep dive into her own psyche. On the release of Works, JÁNA said “I’ve got more verbal with my anger and frustrations. It’s kind of scary but also liberating to me, because I rarely express these things in real life. I think you should write things that scare you or at least something to awaken that frustration.”

Rising jazz guitarist and composer Agnes Persson is nominated for Newcomer of the Year. Agnes released her debut album In Collaboration With Flowers in 2021, becoming only the second-ever female jazz guitarist in Sweden to release a record in her own name. On the 8-piece album, Agnes presents her own take on the Nordic jazz sound, where energetic improvisation meets introspective compositions.
