VidCon is the world’s largest event for anyone involved or interested in online video and in building audiences. This year was the conference’s 10th anniversary, and it definitely surpassed all expectations. Despite the fact the event hosts tens of thousands of people, the production and the multiple panels catered toward either the Community, Creators or Industry members allow for the overall experience to be smooth and productive over just three days.
YouTube Sparks Opportunity, Ways to Earn Money Beyond Ads, Cracking YouTube 2020, and Growth Hacking with YouTube Studio are just a few of the panels The Orchard’s video team were able to attend. These sessions provided additional insight on YouTube products, best practices, how to take advantage of YouTube Studio, as well as a new perspective and understanding of video metadata.
One of the discussions our team enjoyed the most was hosted by Rob Sandie — VidIQ co-founder and CEO, who shared a very easy-to-digest presentation on how YouTube Search works. This session unpacked the importance of close captions, title length, thumbnail best practices and how YouTube is categorizing each video uploaded to the platform. As YouTube Account Managers, having a deeper understanding of the YouTube ecosystem and other online video platforms allows us to provide more resources to super-serve our labels and artists; maintaining The Orchard’s leadership in the Video Services space.
