Kick off the weekend with new releases distributed by The Orchard, featuring brand new albums from DPR IAN, $uicideboy$, and Brenda Blitz.
DPR IAN – Moodswings In To Order (DREAM PERFECT REGIME)
Korean-Australian singer-songwriter DPR IAN is a member, director, and editor of the Dream Perfect Regime (DPR) collective based in Seoul. Known for his sharp artistic vision and tedious attention to detail, DPR IAN is known for making music you can see and feel, constructing his own audiovisual language to communicate things for which there are no words. Artfully combining hip-hop, R&B, and electronica, DPR IAN first came into the spotlight with his hit single “No Blueberries” in 2020. His unique music style quickly garnered widespread attention, and “No Blueberries” amassed over 37 million streams on Spotify. Following the success of his single, DPR IAN released his debut album, Moodswings in This Order, alongside a short film he directed and edited in 2021, and debuted at No.5 on the U.S. Heatseekers chart. For the album, DPR IAN shined a light on his own mental disorders as superpowers, adapting an alternate personality called “MITO”, who is a physical manifestation of his own bipolar disorder and a personification of his inner mental struggles. DPR IAN’s latest project, Moodswings In To Order, begins the “red phase” of MITO’s journey from seraph to fallen angel. It details his origin story, touching on religious themes and imagery as MITO’s resentment and jealousy leads to hate and self-destruction.
$uicideboy$ – Sing Me A Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation (G59 Records)
New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$ are well known for their edgy and punk aesthetic. Hip-hop lifted the duo of cousins—Scott Arcenaux, Jr. a.k.a. $lick Sloth and Aristos Petrou a.k.a. Ruby da Cherry—out of a violent drug-riddled hood nightmare and into an underground phenomenon. Translating their personal fights against visible and invisible demons into a clever vision of underground hip-hop mixed with piercing punk intensity, the duo has since amassed over 2 billion streams, averaged 4.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and sold out arenas on three continents. Sing Me A Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation is their third official full-length project, following 2021’s Long Term Effects of SUFFERING and 2018’s I Want To Die In New Orleans, both of which debuted as Top 10 entries on the Billboard Top 200. Once again, $uicideboy$ brings light out of the deepest corners of darkness, addiction, hopelessness, and pain. Their latest album comes as a result of the newfound clarity they reached after doing some soul-searching and addressing their personal pain throughout 2020 and 2021. Sing Me A Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation is full of positive energy, with an overall message to listeners to follow the light at the end of the tunnel, and never give up no matter how hard life gets.
Brenda Blitz – Schock Herzbrand (Euphorie Records)
Pop-punk artist Brenda Blitz is well known for her show-stopping performances and vibrant choreography that shape live shows and music videos. With music similar to the likes of Joy Division and Talking Heads, Brenda’s shows are an invitation to a one-of-a-kind experience where the boundaries between the stage and the audience are blurred. Brenda first rose to fame when she dropped her well received five track EP Unendliche Weiten in 2021. Her latest release, Schock Herzbrand, is her highly anticipated second EP, recorded together with guitarist and producer Nick Höser (who also played guitar for Alli Neumann) and Thomas Zehnle. Schock Herzbrand contains an eclectic mix of six songs, oscillating between melancholy and euphoria while showcasing powerful themes of friendship, love, and loneliness.
