Maverick Sabre – Don’t Forget to Look Up (FAMM)
UK singer-songwriter and producer Maverick Sabre presents his highly anticipated fourth LP, Don’t Forget to Look Up (FAMM). Traversing recollections of previous relationships, to examining the societal pressures placed on couples, Don’t Forget To Look Up is both intimate and inquisitive at the same time. From the brooding vulnerability of opener “Falling,” to his recent Demae collaboration “Not Easy Love” (which saw support from the likes of Crack, Complex, District, TRENCH, TLOBF and more), this sublime body of work places Maverick’s sultry tones in center stage.
Kelvin Black – PBSZN (Kelvin Black)
Tema-based artist Kelvin Black shares his new project Payback Season (PBSZN). The 5-track EP takes the listener through a musical trance of ups and downs, as well as wins and losses. Kelvin Black started making music in 2010, but it wasn’t until 2013 that he decided to devote more time to it and develop his skill as a performer, producing work in the genres of Afrobeats, Afro Trap, and Hip-Hop.
Ghostly Kisses – Heaven, Wait (Akira)
For Quebec-born Ghostly Kisses, whose real name is Margaux Sauvé, songwriting arrived during a “living situation I was not able to get out of. A toxic relationship where I had a hard time understanding what was happening.” Ghostly Kisses’ early writing was sorrowful and exploratory, but she didn’t realize how instinctively she was writing until years later when it became apparent what she was singing about. Now with her debut album, Heaven, Wait, Ghostly Kisses is a part of the conversation. The album reflects transitions and rebirth – still touching difficult situations, but with the ability to cast someone else in the lead role, giving the music a deeply personal yet starkly universal appeal. One which Margaux feels has come from “a more mature, adult way of looking at it.”
