Hey everybody, spring is now in full swing and you know what that means: tons of new releases. That’s right, as bands gear up for festival circuits and summer tours, good music is popping up left and right. We got some superb stuff for you this week, with new records from Sweet Crude and Woods along with a delicious documentary that hits theaters this weekend. Let’s get to it.
If New Orleans isn’t one of your favorite places in the world, you’ve never been there. It’s a place buzzing with energy and unique culture. Born in the city that care forgot, Sweet Crude shares those same qualities. The band’s new LP Créatures is like nothing you’ve ever heard, guaranteed. It’s homegrown, electrifying indie rock built on a foundation of Creole tradition. French lore, colorful chants and powerful instrumentation make Créatures a celebration of life in New Orleans and beyond. Give it a stream on CoS and download it here.
Next up is a new record from experimentalists Woods aptly titled Love is Love. Those who know Woods are well aware that they tend to change things up from album to album, sometimes song to song, bending genres and keeping listeners on their toes. Love is Love is a smooth, melodic album that flies by beautifully, clocking in at 31 minutes. Well constructed songs give way to instrumental soundscapes that can’t help but put you in a good mood. Watch the lyric video for “Hit That Drum” below and check out the album here.
If you’re a foodie looking for something to do with your Friday night, we’ve got just the thing. The Orchard’s tastiest documentary yet, The Last Magnificent, is coming to NYC and LA this weekend. Executive produced by Anthony Bourdain, The Last Magnificent is the story of perhaps the most punk rock chef in history, Jeremiah Tower. This chef started from nothing, came to own a world-renown culinary destination and disappeared from the business completely. You’ll have to see what happens next for yourself. Watch the trailer below and find tickets here.
