The votes are in from the annual BBC Music Magazine Awards and The Orchard labels took home a total of four incredible wins including the Recording of the Year!
Vasily Petrenko and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s recording of Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies 1, 2 & 5 triumphed as Recording of the Year as well as Best Orchestral Album. Released last June by Onyx Records, the beautiful Tchaikovsky revival transports listeners to the time of grand orchestral sound and elegance.
Also taking home a win, is The Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge and Andrew Nethsingha for Jonathan Harvey: Deo. The spiritual choral melodies released by Signum was awarded Best Choral Album by BBC Music Magazine.
Smetana Trio was awarded Best Chamber Album for Bohuslav Martinů: The Complete Piano Trios. The Supraphon release was best described by BBC Music Magazine:
“… The Smetana Trio proves hugely responsive to the Czech composer Martinů’s characteristic sprung rhythms, effervescent humour and contrasting moments of introspective lyricism. It’s an intoxicating mixture that leaves you puzzled as to why such incredible music has not yet established itself firmly in the repertory.”
We offer our congratulations to all those involved in the success of these magnificent records. Review the full list of award winners here.
