As we continually endeavor to make The Orchard Workstation the most efficient and high-performing tool that it can be, we are excited to introduce our latest feature: Localization in Release Builder.
A highly-requested feature, Localizations — or translations — allow you to display your music on iTunes and Apple Music in 47 different languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese and many more — all within the same UPC. For international clients, this is a huge asset and allows you to target local markets in their language of choice: an iTunes user with Japan in their iTunes Country Settings will see the release with Japanese metadata, thereby increasing his (or her) engagement with the release and the likelihood this foreign music lover will click ‘Buy.’
So, how does it work?
When creating new or copying existing releases in Release Builder, you’ll now have the option to add up to 5 Localizations beneath any Release Name, Track Name or Artist level field. This includes Primary Artists, Featuring Artists, Remixers, Composers, Track Version, Movement, and so on. Simply click on Add Localization below the field in question, choose from the list of available languages and enter the localized translation in the text box.
While doing this, you’ll need to keep in mind a few things:
1. If multiple artists are entered for a given field such as Featuring, please ensure the Localizations are entered in the same order as the Master field. This is crucial to ensure the order of importance and display of artist names is maintained the way you intend it to be.
2. If clicking ‘apply to all’ for a given Track-level field, Localizations, if present, will also be applied across all tracks.
3. Resist the urge to use Google Translate (or similar online translators)! These translations are not always accurate, and if incorrect translations get delivered to iTunes, they may be ticketed or hidden from the store.
