We have wrapped up another year of growth, innovation, and modification across the social media landscape. However, one thing remains true: Facebook is still the most popular online social network globally, with 3.05 billion monthly active users as of the end of 2024 and over 14 billion monthly website visits.
The biggest development on Facebook has been its removal of “fact-checking.” This initiative will start in the US, where Meta will terminate its third-party fact-checking programs and move to a Community Notes model. We do not have any information on how the Community Notes feature will operate yet, but stay tuned!
Facebook continues to reframe the user experience to stay at the forefront of fans’ minds as a source of information about their favorite artists. Despite the changes in platforms and trends, Facebook continues to lead the social media and entertainment sectors. Facebook remains a vital tool for producers and artists looking to grow their fan base and reach internationally!
In 2024, Instagram was estimated to have approximately 2.4 billion users. As the platform’s user base continues to grow, particularly with the upcoming TikTok verdict, Instagram is also evolving by introducing new features.
This year, Instagram began letting users add music to feed posts, as well as the ability to upload up to 20 images—double the previous limit of 10. These updates are a game changer for artists, offering more ways to promote their music and share content with their audience.
The largest change this year has been Instagram’s announcement regarding the removal of augmented reality filters, stating:
We’ve made the difficult decision to shut down the Meta Spark platform. On January 14, 2025, AR effects built on Meta Spark by third-party creators will be removed from Meta products, including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. Additionally, Meta Spark products (Meta Spark Studio, Meta Spark Hub and Meta Spark Player) will no longer be accessible. (Source: Meta)
