Rising Women in Latin Music

Rising Women in Latin Music

In celebration of Rising Women across all genres and styles of music and Hispanic Latin Heritage Month, we’re shining a spotlight on Rising Women in Latin Music. From Música Urbana to Pop music, these women are making their mark in the Latin Music scene.

Villano Antillano

Villano Antillano (La Buena Fortuna Music) has been a leading force for the queer movement within the Urban genre in Puerto Rico. As a transfemme woman, her lyrics revolutionize and challenge cultural norms in the Caribbean, like her latest release “Cuero”

Antillano recently had her NPR Tiny Desk debut where she performed “Yo Tengo un Novio”, “Kaleidoscópica”, “Cuero”, and “Cáscara de Coco”. Last week, she also performed in La Escala Sonora, A Caribbean Music Showcase event in Miami alongside top Latin artists such as Rafa Pabón (Rimas Entertainment), RaiNao (Sonar), and more!

Irepelusa

Venezuelan artist Irepelusa (Discos De La Piña) is in the pop and urban music scene – her music combines Caribbean rhythms and American genres such as hip-hop, r&b, neo soul to create a new wave of pop that is warm and fun.

In 2022, she released her first album titled UN KOALA EN UNA PALMERA, a refreshingly authentic take, which gained popularity across South and Central America. Her sold out shows were in the following cities: Santiago, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, and Lima.

This year, Irepelusa has been producing her sophomore album alongside one of the best producers in Latin America, Juan Pablo Vega (Producer of the Year in 2019 for Latin Grammys). New music is set to arrive by the end of the year and touring in 2024.

VF7

16 year old Puerto Rican artist VF7 aka Valeria Fernández (Sora and Company1) is making her mark as the new voice of música urbana. She’s collaborated with well-known artists such as Rauw Alejandro, Young Miko, Christian Nodal, and more!

VF7 has received nominations at top awards for Latin music such as Premios Tu Música Urbano, Premio Lo Nuestro, and Premios Juventud.

Leading up to the release of “UNA DOLL”, she shared some behind the scenes on Instagram.

Natascha Falcão

Latin Grammy nominated Brazilian artist Natascha Falcão is a force. She was born in the city of Recife and has been researching theater and artistic expression since 2006. Based in Rio de Janeiro, she’s participated in Bloco da Terreirada, VIVA GAL tribute, Mimo Festival, to name a few.

In 2023, Falcão released her debut album Ave Mulher with the label Biscoito Fino which has been met with great praise and success.
