In celebration of Rising Women across all genres and styles of music, we’re shining a spotlight on Rising Women in Latin Alternative music. From indie to urban alternative these women are making their mark in the Latin Alternative scene.

Joaquina Mertz

Joaquina Mertz is a talented singer, vocal producer, and songwriter from Mexico City. She graduated from Berklee College of Music, and her career began as an assistant at Etsudio. She also collaborated with renowned artists such as Totó La Momposina and Los Amigos Invisibles. 

Her song “Mucho Peor” positioned her on streaming platforms, and her performance at the Ceremonia 2024 festival solidified her status as an emerging artist. On November 14, she will perform at Lunario del Auditorio Nacional with María Centeno, blending genres like jazz, R&B, and trip-hop to create a unique sound that resonates with her audience.

Lara 91k

Lara91k is a standout figure in the new wave of Argentine music. Raised in Pinamar on the Argentine Atlantic coast, Lara grew up in a musical household, learning various instruments and developing her craft within the skate-punk culture of her youth. 

As an intimate and introspective singer-songwriter, she has released numerous singles since 2015, along with the LP ‘Como Antes’ (2022) and mixtapes ‘romance mixtape’ (2021) and ‘ROMANCE MIXTAPE 2’ (2023), collaborating with key artists in the scene. Her music defies genre clichés, resembling a personal diary filled with confessions and explorations of modern production styles, including hip hop, R&B, and reggaeton.

Greccia

Greccia is a Peruvian singer-songwriter who has captivated audiences with the authenticity and vulnerability of her music. This has positioned her as a leading figure among the new generation of Peruvian female artists. Her music style primarily includes Dream pop, urban alternative, and R&B. She recently released her first album, ‘devut,’ on August 23rd, marking the beginning of her promising career.

Laura Pérez

Laura Pérez is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Bogotá, Colombia, who has released 23 songs since 2020, amassing 157,808 monthly listeners on Spotify. Her music emphasizes the power of emotions and the magic of words. In 2023, she opened for Spanish artist El Kanka, performing in cities like Medellín and Cali, and concluded her tour in Bogotá. Her song “Buenos días” has garnered 3 million streams.

Notable achievements include being selected as an official artist for SXSW 2023 and performing at the Estéreo Picnic Festival 2024. She also has a concert scheduled at El Foro del Tejedor in Mexico City on February 22, 2024, and has partnered with brands like Xiaomi, The North Face, Sajú, and Nike.
