On June 6, Argentina’s largest music award show, Premios Gardel a la Música took place, celebrating some of this year’s best Latin American music. Here at The Orchard, we are excited for our releases and their tremendous showing, with nine of our nominees taking home Gardel Awards! Huge congratulations to everyone who was nominated and to Magenta Discos, Acqua Records, Alfiz Productions, Pelo Music, PopArt Discos, and S-Music for all of their wins! See the full list of Gardel winners here.
To celebrate, we wanted to highlight a few of our honored releases. Taking home the trophy for Mejor Álbum Artista Femenina de Rock / Best Female Rock Album is Pelo Music’s Marilina Bertoldi, with her album Sexo con modelos. After her time in the alternative rock band Connor Questa, the singer-songwriter went solo and worked to develop her own unique, rock and roll sound. Check out the music video for her song “Rastro” below!
The award for Mejor Álbum Tango Alternativo / Best Male Alternative Tango Album went to Daniel Melingo for his album Anda. The PopArt Discos artist has had a long history in music, performing through several genres throughout the years. The album tells a story with a series of scenes full of unique characters that unite the original tango with a new age of performance and sound. Below is his video from the album, “En un bosque de la China,” which also won Mejor Videoclip / Best Video.
Another congratulations to Shoot The Radio on their award for Mejor Álbum de Música Electrónica / Best Electronic Music Album, brought to you by S-Music. Opera Galaxy, the electronic duo’s debut album, features songs sung in English along with a subtle rock influence to accompany their cool electronic sounds. These up-and-coming artists are already making a name for themselves as a notable force in Argentinian music. Check out the video for “We Will Dance” below!
