From the United Kingdom to South Africa to Georgia, this week’s edition of Out Today features new music from across the globe. Check out new releases from UK music group NSG, South African rapper Luna Florentino, and Atlanta-based singer Cherae Leri.
NSG, Roots (NSG Entertainment)
NSG is a six-member musical group based out of the UK. Their artist name is an acronym that’s ever-changing, but the message remains the same: “It’s a lifestyle, not a movement.” At first NSG stood for No Sleep Gang, then Non Stop Grinding. At the moment it means Never Stop Growing, but that could change too. The members of NSG (Kruddz, Mxjib, Mojo, OGD, Dope and Papii Abz) first met while studying at Arts & Media School Islington in London. All of the members are also of either Ghanaian or Nigerian descent, which is where they credit their Afrobeats influence from. Their new release Roots is an 18-track mixtape featuring the likes of Chip, Randy Valentine, Yung Felix, and Tion Wayne on the previously released UK Top #10 and platinum-selling single “Options.” Listen to NSG’s new release Roots, out now.
Luna Florentino, Ten Times Better (Punchline)
South African rapper and record producer Luna Florentino presents his fourth mixtape, Ten Times Better out now via Punchline. Florentino has been crafting his skills for over ten years. And like the widely touted theory that says it takes ten thousand hours to master any craft, Luna Florentino believes those hours from the last ten years can be heard through his new release. Ten Times Better consists of seven new songs, featuring artists Parlemo on “STRANGE” and Zacknthebox on “GONE”. See for yourself how Luna Florentino has developed as an artist over the past ten years by listening to Ten Times Better now.
Cherae Leri, The Pain That Sex Brings (Investing Black Records/Royal Reign Productions)
Born and raised in the South, Houston Texas-born singer Cherae Leri currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia where she has been active in the music scene for years now. A singer, songwriter, dancer, and model, Cherae Leri dipps her toe into many creative ventures. In her new release The Pain That Sex Brings, Cherae says she “channeled her inner 90’s Janet Jackson” to convey the attitude and emotions behind this release. “This album wasn’t made for the weak,” Cherae says. By just listening to the songs, listeners will relate to the pain that inevitably comes along with the lust. The Pain That Sex Brings is out now on all streaming platforms.
