Begin the weekend with new releases distributed by The Orchard, featuring brand new albums from NATIVE Sound System, Reveal Party, and Oasis.
NATIVE Sound System – NATIVEWORLD (NATIVE RECORDS)
Established under the Lagos-born media company, The NATIVE Networks, NATIVE Sound System is a DJ collective and production supergroup that was created with the salient mission of spreading music from Africa to every part of the world. Bringing together both familiar talent and emerging names from Africa, NATIVE Sound System is a pioneer in creating authentic albums that both showcase the unmatched talent of African artists, while simultaneously building a unique sound that appeals to people around the world. In April 2022, the collective released their first single “Runaway”, which became an instant hit, amassing over 385,000 streams on Spotify alone. NATIVEWORLD is the collective’s latest release—it is a 15-track album showcasing the depth and scope of music coming out of Africa and her diaspora. NATIVEWORLD’s production was inspired by the climate and cultural seasons found in Lagos Nigeria, and it is a conceptual album that takes listeners through the sounds that represent a typical year in Nigeria. From the murky hip-hop beats that keep locals energized through the rainy weather, to the amapiano bangers that sustain their festive period, to the breezy bounces that accompany them on boat rides to the beach, and the soft beats that get them through the intermediary lull of their dry season, NATIVEWORLD is sure to appeal to people from all walks of life.
Reveal Party – You’re My Favourite Person – I Hate You (WAS Entertainment)
As one of the rising folk acts in the Danish music scene, Emily Nyhuus, better known by her stage name Reveal Party, is well-known for writing songs about love and her life as a transwoman. With a tongue-in-cheek dark sarcasm, Emily first rose to the spotlight in 2020, when she released her highly successful EP, You Stole a Year of My Life. Following the release, she gained significant praise and attention from both Danish and international media, and went on to receive a music award at Danish Rainbow Awards 2021. Embodying the sound of both melancholy and hope, Emily’s songs are known for their gut-wrenching and brutally honest lyrics—which feature prominently across her range of midwest emo tunes and uplifting pop songs. Following the release of You’re My Favourite Person – I Love You earlier this year, You’re My Favourite Person – I Hate You is the second EP of three EP’s that together make up the trilogy ‘You’re My Favorite Person.’ The series tells the story of a relationship, from love to hate to “please don’t leave me”. Focusing on grief, jealousy, and heartbreak, her second EP in the trilogy is a brutally honest dive into the darker emotions that one can experience in a relationship.
