Austin Fillmore – They Don’t Get It (Artist Collective)
Austin Fillmore self-describes his sound as “Hip-Pop”; a fusion of hard-hitting hip-hop beats, with catchy and soulful melodies. Raised on the west side of Chicago, Fillmore strives to reinvent the “Chicago Sound” in his own unique way. In his new EP They Don’t Get It, Fillmore combines influences spanning from across genres. The EP features three new songs from the alt-rapper: “They Don’t Get It”, “G.O.A.T”, and “ Real Out Here.” With his #ThinkLessFeelMore movement, Austin Fillmore urges his fans to submit to emotions and feel MORE. “Growing up in a Black household you’re typically told to stay away from emotions. Especially for Black men, we’re told not to cry, never smile and never break down,” Fillmore says. Austin disagrees with this idea of hyper-masculinity and believes that introspection is essential to personal growth.
Cassadee Pope – Rise and Shine (Awake Music)
Grammy-nominated and Platinum-certified singer-songwriter Cassadee Pope has released a new acoustic album, Rise and Shine. The pop/country singer became known to many when she won the third season of NBC’s singing competition show The Voice. The South Florida singer’s new album features songwriting contributions from Butch Walker, Emily Weisband, Forest Glen Whitehead, Bobby Huff, and others. Pope released her two singles “Let Me Go” and “Built This House” in July, which was met with great praise from publications such as Taste of Country who said “both songs showcase Pope’s creative turn to a mostly unadorned balladry that puts her endearing voice right up front.” On the meaning behind the album, Pope said “No matter what we go through in life, we have two choices: let it defeat us and crumble, or rise and shine. I hope through this difficult time in the world we all find the strength to do the latter.”
