The Latin American Music Awards honor some of the industry’s most celebrated artists in Latin pop, rock, regional Mexican, Tropical, and more. On Tuesday, September 18, Telemundo announced the 2018 Latin AMA Award nominees. This year’s big event will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 8pm ET, broadcasted live in Hollywood on Telemundo and on Spanish-language network Universo.
Ozuna, whose sophomore album Aura was deemed the year’s largest first week for a Latin release, was nominated 9 times — including Artist of the Year, Favorite Artist – Male, and Favorite Artist – Urban. He’s joined by friend of The Orchard El Cartel Records’ Daddy Yankee, also running for Artist of the Year and Favorite Artist – Male, among 4 others. And big ups to Mr. Worldwide (the one and only Pitbull) who got a nod for Favorite Tour — traveling literally worldwide with Enrique Iglesias.
It’s no surprise and incredibly well-deserving that Orquesta Akokán (Daptone Records) was nominated for Favorite Album – Tropical. Akokan, which means “from the heart,” is exactly that. The band, a collective of the some of the finest musicians in Cuba, features all-original music on their self-titled debut album, released this past March. Did you know the album was cut live over three days at one of the longest operating studios in the world, located in Havana? Pretty impressive if we do say so ourselves.
The most watched woman on YouTube, aka Natti Natasha (Pina Records), is up for Favorite Artist – Female. With 7 million Instagram followers, Billboard called it and said 2018 was going to be her year. Last year she teamed up with Ozuna on her single “Criminal” which accrued 1.5 BILLION (yes billion) views.
Fans, you’ve got until October 10 to vote online for your favorite artists! A huge kudos to the nominated artists distributed through The Orchard, as well as partners and friends on featured tracks (we see you Willy William). Mark those cals and tune in on October 25!
