Italian artist Sethu has released his long-awaited debut album tutti i colori del buio via Carosello Records. Many came to know Sethu through the 2023 Sanremo Festival, the Italian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. The Sanremo Festival catapulted Sethu into fame, leading him to open shows for artists such as Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, Sfera Ebbasta, Geolier, and Massimo Pericolo.
Of course, great highs can be accompanied by lows. The pressure and expectations of the moment affected Sethu’s mental health, which he shares throughout his new record. The album’s 11 tracks tell all the nuances of this period between light and shadow, satisfaction and defeat, deep darkness and new light. The Italian album title, fittingly, translates to “all the colors of the dark.”
“After the period of great intensity following the Sanremo Festival, there came the backlash of juggling being an artist again in a very complex historical period,” says Sethu. “Towards the end of the summer, the first episodes of depression resurfaced, taking me back to dark places in my mind that I was convinced I would never go through again. So much so that both [my brother] Jiz and I decided to go back to therapy.”
Sethu produced tutti i colori del buio with his twin brother, Jiz. The Savona-born duo have come up together since their first emergence on the Ligurian punk/rap scene, later expanding their musical horizons. Through thick and thin, the twin brothers remain constants for each other, growing and learning from one another, both personally and musically. Says Sethu, “me and my brother, we both had untreated mental health problems. If we hadn’t done therapy, we would have never finished this album.”
