Charlotte Cardin Leads 51st Annual JUNO Award Nominations

The nominees for Canada’s biggest night in music have been revealed! The 51st annual JUNO Awards announced their nominations on Tuesday, March 1 during a virtual telecast. Congratulations to The Orchard’s distributed partners on receiving nearly 40 nominations!

It’s the year of the ‘Canadian Charlotte.’ Montreal-born singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin tops the list with six nominations: JUNO People’s Choice TikTok, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Pop Album of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. In April 2021, Charlotte released her critically-acclaimed debut album Phoenix (Cult Nation). The record spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, making Cardin the first Canadian woman in five years to achieve multiple weeks at No.1. This isn’t the first JUNO Awards “breakthrough” for the “Meaningless” singer. In 2018, Cardin was nominated for ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’ and ‘Songwriter of the Year.’

Toronto-born Charlotte Day Wilson received three nominations for debut album ALPHA (Stone Woman): Songwriter Of The Year, Producer Of The Year, and Traditional R&B/Soul Recording Of The Year. Wilson is the only person to be nominated for both Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year.

Charlotte Cardin (Cult Nation) and Mustafa (Regent Park Songs) will perform at this year’s show live from Toronto’s Budweiser Stage. Mustafa touched listeners across the world with his stunning debut album, When Smoke Rises, which earned the Toronto native a nomination for Songwriter Of The Year and Alternative Album Of The Year.

The 2022 JUNO Awards will be telecast on Sunday, May 15, and hosted by Toronto-raised actor Simu Liu. Find the full list of nominees here and The Orchard distributed nominees below.
