Billboard and Telemundo announced the finalists for this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, honoring the Latin albums, songs, performers, labels, and imprints that have dominated Billboard’s weekly charts throughout 2021. Among these nominees are over 90 of The Orchard distributed artists, with labels such as Rimas and Lizos sweeping various award categories.
The Billboard Latin Music Awards––considered the longest running award-show in Latin music––will be live broadcasted through Telemundo on Thursday, September 23. Hosted at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida, the event will kick-off at 7pm EST with a red carpet special followed by a three-hour award ceremony.
Rimas Entertainment dominated the Latin Music Award categories. Rimas Entertainment artist and legend Bad Bunny scored the most nominations of any artist, a finalist for 22 awards in 13 categories from Artist of the Year to Songwriter of the Year. Bad Bunny even competes against himself in multiple categories, with four of his songs nominated for Streaming Song of the Year and all three of his albums up for the title of Top Latin Album category. Bad Bunny’s Latin Music Award success this year comes at no surprise: his three albums released in 2020 were filled with chart-topping hits, such as his Jhay Cortez collaboration “Dakiti” that spent 27 weeks at No.1 in Hot Latin Songs.
Nominated for Producer of the Year is Rimas artist Mora, one of the masterminds behind some of Bunny’s record-breaking albums such as YHLQMDLG and El Último Tour del Mundo. While writing for Bad Bunny and other artists, Mora also dropped his debut solo album, Primer Día de Clases (First Day of Classes), a 16-track set driven by his signature slow-tempo reggaeton sound that charted at No. 7 on the Top Latin Albums chart.
Ozuna is another fellow reggaetón star up for a Latin Music Awards, with seven nominations in categories such as Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. Ozuna has been unstoppable since beginning his musical career in 2012. Ozuna’s debut album “Odisea” sat in the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums, and by 2018 he had 43 charting hits on Hot Latin Songs chart, crowning him Billboard’s Top Latin Artist. This year, Ozuna collaborated with another music icon, Anuel AA, on a 12 original song album, Los Dioses.
