In this week’s Out Today we give you three examples of the different roles music can play in everyday life. In a studio album, music can be a canvas to a musician’s inner workings. In a live performance, music can make you move, dance, cry, and sweat. In cinema, music can act as a narrator, guiding the audience through different emotions. Check out three new releases from our distributed artists who execute each of these roles exceptionally.
ATL – Кривой эфир (ACIDHOUZE)
Russian hip-hop artist ATL (Sergey Kruppov) is tearing up the club scene with his unique energy and performances. While his artist alias was inspired by the airport code of Georgia’s largest city, ATL hails from a small town on the Volga River in Novocheboksarsk, Russia. ATL is no stranger to the Russian rap scene. In fact, he won the “Versus” freestyle battle against rival Andy Cartwright. ATL’s latest release is Кривой эфир via ACIDHOUZE. The album consists of 15 tracks that will have you enamored by the world of Russian hip-hop.
Stone Sour – Hello, You Bastards: Live in Reno (Cooking Vinyl)
The multi-platinum, 3X GRAMMY award-winning rock group Stone Sour has released their first live performance album, Hello, You Bastards: Live in Reno. The band consists of Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor, along with Josh Rand, Roy Mayorga, Johny Chow, and Christian Martucci. The album features 16 of the band’s greatest hits, including “Through The Glass,” “Bother,” and “Song 3.” Listeners will get to experience the rock group just as they were in Reno, Nevada on October 5, 2018. Says guitarist Josh Rand, “we’re very proud of the fact that it’s 100% live with absolutely no overdubs! It’s not perfect but neither are we.” Check out the live album in all its glorious imperfections out now via Cooking Vinyl.
Kate Simko – We Believe In Dinosaurs (Original Score) (Lakeshore Records)
Lakeshore Records is one of the top line independent record labels for soundtrack album releases. Lakeshore artists have composed scores for cinematic hits like Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, The Handmaid’s Tale, and many more. One of the latest Lakeshore soundtrack releases comes from the mind of Chicago-born electronic music producer, Kate Simko. Kate produced the score for the documentary We Believe In Dinosaurs, out now. In order to sonically portray the right emotions, Kate worked closely with the director Clayton Brown. Kate’s synth-heavy score provides an industrial and ominous mood for a film exploring the tension between creationism and modern science in Kentucky. With the use of musical techniques like harmonic dissonance and layered ostinatos, Simko beautifully illustrates tension, chaos, and resolution throughout the story. You can hear Kate Simko’s score in action by watching We Believe In Dinosaurs on digital platforms and by, of course, enjoying the soundtrack on its own.
