Out Today by The Orchard: The Waterboys, Orla Gartland & More

The sun is breaking through and so is the music. Lounge in your favorite park, turn the volume up and enjoy the moment, we’re here to provide the score to set the tone for your weekend.

The Waterboys release their follow up to 2017’s Out Of All This Blue, with freshly pressed, Where The Action Is. Lead by one of the top British songwriters responsible for tracks performed by Prince, Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, The Whole of The Moon and Ellie Goulding, Mike Scott puts together another genre-bending album with The Waterboys. The Cooking Vinyl release experiments with soundscapes and effects, reflected in distant thunder sounds in “Ladbroke Grove Symphony,” below. The album as a whole resurfaces nostalgia with a track dedicated to Clash guitarist Mick Jones, while also incorporating new adventurous elements throughout. Accompanying a 5-star rating, Nigel Williamson of Hi Fi Choice describes the album as, “A timeless but contemporary classic.” Experience Where The Action Is, now.

Indie-pop artist Orla Gartland provides contagious airy tunes with her new album, Why Am I Like This? Self-released, Orla delivers catchy pop music with a punk rock sensibility. The content, smart, relatable and precise, is partnered with an uplifting production that will make you eager to overcome any challenge. As Born Music reviews, “Soft folk acoustics morph and blend into an alt-pop escapade full of relatable lyricism and powerful poignancy.” Prepare to sing-a-long with a new found sense of poetic self-realization with Why Am I Like This?

Act Suprised, Sebadoh‘s brand new album has arrived via Dangerbird Records/Poison City Records. Fronted by Dinosaur Jr. bassist and solo artist, Lou Barlow compares their March single “Celebrate The Void” to Ariana Grande in discussion with Stereogum stating, “The first line of this song: “I get the feeling you don’t feel me” is pretty good. It could be a line in an Ariana Grande song, I like it. I followed it from there through some general complaints about a composite character in my life, someone I could never crack. ” More fitting for a dingy basement than a teenage party, each track presents a varying degree of beach rock rifts paired with grungy vocals. Perfect for an existential bonfire or a drive along the coast, press play on Sebadoh’s Act Suprised.

Have a great weekend, and keep experimenting with new music each week, Out Today.
