2017 has been quite a year for The Orchard and as things come to a close, we could not think of a better way to put a bow on it than with FIFTY Grammy nominations, the most in our 20-year history. As we celebrate the success of the amazing artists and labels we work with, let’s have a look at a few of those that will be headed to NYC on January 28th with hopes of grabbing a golden gramophone.
When Nothing More‘s The Stories We Tell Ourselves hit the shelves this year, there was an undeniable buzz surrounding the band’s first record in four years. Soon enough, the album soared and stayed on the charts, quickly surpassing anything they’d done before. If that wasn’t validation enough that The Stories We Tell Ourselves kicks ass, the band now has three grammy nominations under their belt for their fifth studio album. Catch them on the ballot for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song.
We also have solid contenders in the Americana Album and American Roots Song categories with Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit and The Mavericks appearing in both. Isbell earned a nod for his spectacular release The Nashville Sound as well as the album’s shining centerpiece “If We Were Vampires.” The Mavericks are Grammy-bound with their record Brand New Day and the track “I Wish You Well.”
Things are looking promising in the jazz genre, with three releases each up for awards in the Vocal and Instrumental categories. Up for Jazz Vocal Album, we have Raul Midón‘s Bad Ass And Blind, Jazzmeia Horn‘s A Social Call and Cecile McLorin Salvant‘s wonderful LP Dreams And Daggers. For Jazz Instrumental Album, you can find Billy Childs‘ Rebirth, Fred Hersch‘s Open Book and Joey DeFrancesco & The People‘s Project Freedom.
See the full list of The Orchard’s nominees below and be sure to catch the 60th Annual Grammy Awards on January 28th, live from Madison Square Garden on CBS.
