Argentina-born and Barcelona-based artist Simona has been named the Spotify EQUAL Global ambassador for the month of February. The Spotify EQUAL program spotlights rising women artists from across the world. As the Spotify Global EQUAL artist ambassador, Simona will be provided visibility in initatives within the Spotify platform, which include her inclusion in the Equal Global and Equal Spain playlists.
“Seeing a woman performing any kind of art is a powerful statement and a vindication of our rights. It is not necessary that we sing all the battles that we have fought throughout history, it has already cost us a lot to be able to produce our art and have the same opportunities as men,” says Simona.
Simona defines her music as a collage that mixes different musical genres fearlessly and without prejudice. Her inspiration to create music comes from experiences with friends and the women she admires – whether that be influential artists (such as Mala Rodríguez, Madonna, Rita Lee, Björk) or the supportive women in her life. Says Simona, “I would love to see more women involved in the music industry; especially at the studio. The music needs this feminine vision.”
Her first single “Bali,” released in 2019, has amassed millions of streams and provided momentum inside the underground music scene. Following “Bali”, Simona continues to reach fans around the world with new songs such as “Clean Baby”, which contains influences from urban music and bossa nova; “Rosa Pastel,” a Latin-pop, reggaeton, and electro-pop track; or “Mentira,” a song dedicated to the disappointment of love.
Simona’s first release of 2022, “Shut Up,” is a collaboration with Lee Eye and produced by one the most promising producers of the Spanish emerging scene, Blackthoven. In the artist’s own words, her music is like “a fun experiment. [She] does not ask for forgiveness or permission and celebrates freedom without prejudice.”
Simona’s upcoming single “Amarillo mi Corazón” arrives on all platforms on February 23. Produced by Sr. Chen, the song invites listeners to walk (or dance) through a city covered by the yellow fallen leaves, enjoying freedom. The single was composed and recorded at Beatgarden studios in Barcelona.
