Americana Honors & Awards Announce 2019 Nominees

The mission of the Americana Music Association is to advocate for “the authentic voice of American Roots Music around the world.” Their main event, the Americana Honors & Awards show, will take place on September 11, 2019, at the renowned Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The awards include six member-voted awards and several Lifetime Achievement Awards.

American Singer-Songwriter Lori McKenna’s eleventh studio album The Tree (Thirty Tigers) is nominated for Album of the Year and Song of the Year for “People Get Old.” Produced by Dave Cobb, the album encompasses the theme of family and the meaning of relationships.

Nominated for Duo/Group of the Year, Our Native Daughters (Smithsonian Folkways) made up folk singer-songwriter Rhiannon Giddens, and instrumentalists meets dynamic storytellers Amythyst Kiah, Leyla McCalla, and Allison Russell, the quartet tells the story of struggle, resistance, and hope — confronting America’s history of slavery, racism, and misogyny from a powerful, black female perspective. As NPR First Listen writes, “The resulting 13 tracks are a loosely woven tapestry of the members’ contributions that’s also strikingly sharp in vision.”

The Orchard congratulates all our artists, labels, and partners who received nominations! For a full list of nominations, visit The Tennessean.
