Are you interested in the GRAMMY Awards? Do you have a network of music industry peers or are you interested in developing your network? If you’re reading this, chances are you work in the music industry and should apply to be a Recording Academy Member if you are not already.
As a member of the Recording Academy, artists, and industry professionals gain access to unique opportunities and a community that puts creators first.
HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER
It’s easier than you think.
1) Visit http://recordingacademy.com/join
2) Select your membership type
- Voting Members – Voting members must be credited professionals with at least 12 commercially distributed, verifiable credits (5 of which must have been released in the past five years).
- All referenced credits must be commercially available in the United States, either through recognized online music retailers/streaming services (defined as paid, full catalog, audio-only, on-demand streaming and/or limited download subscription services) or physical distribution retail stores.
- Professional Members – Professional members must prove that their primary career is in direct support of music creators. (E.g. Label executives, managers, booking agents, etc.)
- GRAMMY U Members – GRAMMY U is specifically for emerging professionals in school or the early stages of their careers.
3) Get TWO strong recommendations from fellow music industry peers. Recommendations are submitted online and can be made by current Recording Academy members or Non-members.
- Recording Academy members can log in to their membership profile to submit a recommendation.
- Non-members can submit their recommendations here.
4) Once both recommendations have been received, you will be prompted via email to fill out a candidate profile detailing your accomplishments and contributions to the music industry. Your completed candidate profile must be submitted by March 1.
IMPORTANT TIPS
- You DO NOT need to be based in the United States to be a member of the Recording Academy
- Members and Non-Members of the Recording Academy are only permitted to make two recommendations per year.
- If you have been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award within the previous five years, your credit requirement is waived. If you are a current year’s GRAMMY nominee or winner, no recommendations are required.
- Approved applicants will not receive their invitation until late July. At that time, annual membership dues are required totaling $150 USD.

GRAMMY AWARDS
As the only peer-recognized music award, Recording Academy members are a key part of the GRAMMY Awards process. Members can submit their eligible releases for GRAMMY consideration. Voting members also get to vote in the GRAMMY Awards process. Academy members also receive regular GRAMMY Awards updates and access to purchase tickets to the Awards.
ADVOCACY & PUBLIC POLICY
Sharing a common passion for the betterment of the music industry, the Recording Academy frequently mobilizes members by raising awareness and taking action around public policy and other advocacy programs.
MUSICARES
A charity founded by the Recording Academy, MusiCares raises funds to support individuals in need via financial aid, as well as health & well-being.
GRAMMY MUSEUM
The GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles provides a space to celebrate art, engage, and learn. With live events and seminars, the GRAMMY Museum engages the public in an experiential connection with music.
GRAMMY U
The next generation of the music industry is already a part of the Recording Academy. With GRAMMY U college students and emerging creators and professionals can engage with the music industry and gain knowledge to support their future careers.
