‘A Christmas Duel’ is a hilarious Phil Spector-inspired punk Christmas duet from Swedish garage rockers The Hives and Grammy / Emmy-winning 80s pop icon Cyndi Lauper. This year sees an increasing number of credible acts recording Crimbo tracks. The Hives commented on their decision to do one as, “a surprise to some, but we had to. It came to us. It landed in our lap and was way too good to shake or toss. We knew we had to record it. A sign if you will…We wanted to have this juxtaposition of really sweet music and nasty lyrics". With lyrics like 'I went down on your mother', their Christmas single is perfect for granny's stocking. 'A Christmas Duel' is available to download from 1st December. |

Lauren Harris’ 'Your Turn' is set to be the very first release of 2009, marking the start of a huge year for the promising rock vixen. The fact that she is the daughter of Iron Maiden founder and bassist Steve Harris has nothing to do with Lauren’s steady rise to stardom. After inadvertently getting discovered in a pub by Russ Ballard (who knew nothing of her family connection) in 2005, she has now toured extensively, both on her own and supporting Iron Maiden, and has been featured at dozens of European festivals. Through this, she has created a name for herself as an independent, established rock chick. Let 'Your Turn' be your first purchase of 2009 as it goes on sale on the stroke of midnight, January 1. |

Underground legends Ozric Tentacles are sure to please with their latest addition to their impressive back catalogue. 'Sunrise Festival', released today, captures the space-rockers’ magical performance at the 2007 Sunrise Celebration Festival in the band’s native Somerset. Thumping synth basslines, delicate percussion and deep riffs infused with psychedelic, jazz, and reggae influences create an incredible signature style... Originally released in 2000, The 'Hidden Step', with its nods to dub, techno and Eastern flavour, is widely regarded as one of Ozric Tentacles’ finest creations. Further demonstrating the eclectic style of the band, 'Waterfall Cities', out now, encompasses the band’s journey into electronica in 1999. Fans seeking to recapture the essence of the band’s inimitable live performance are further spoilt for choice with the reissue of 'Pyramidion', a mini-album featuring five storming live tracks, and the reissue of 2002’s Live At The Pongmasters Ball. Both releases are available now. |

The Danish boy girl couplet garage/rock duo applies close harmonies and fuzzy guitars to Phil Spector's 1963 holiday pop classic ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’, plus the originals ‘Christmas In Cleveland’, ‘Come On Santa’ and exclusive bonus track ‘Forever In Your Arms’. This marks the last of four digital EPs issued since September. Their early '08 album 'Lust Lust Lust' scanned nearly 40K and and earned raves from Billboard SPIN, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, URB, and Filter, amongst others. |

‘Runout Groove’ is the 2007 album from acclaimed long-running UK jangle-pop band - The Lilac Time, led by Stephen Duffy [Duran Duran]. It is an impeccable amalgamation of pop, folk, ragtime and blues. Unlike most artists, Duffy's writing and melodies seem to improve with age, which is perhaps partly due to him never chasing the limelight and playing the fame game. |

 |
London’s Portico Quartet fuse modern jazz with elements of minimalist classical and genre-defying rhythms that could appeal to Gilles Peterson fans, IDM heads, and traditional jazz lovers. Their sound is made more distinctive by the use of the hang, a percussion instrument that’s a cross between a gong, a gamelan and various other drums and bells. “It's mellifluous, exuberant and jaunty, full of catchy tunes and strong hooks. The closest comparison is perhaps with the late Penguin Cafe Orchestra.” |

Danish duo Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have become dangerously good at this whole "writing killer records" thing. Their first release since Pretty In Black [2007] is a decade-spanning masterpiece, projected across a massive drive-in movie screen. Cinematic melodrama! A historical ambiance! Noir-guitar recontextualized for the double zeros! Lust... dabbles in everything from swoony surf and soda-shop pop to indulgent shoegaze and hissing electronics. |

British folk has never been stronger than in 2008. Campbell’s debut album ratchets it up a few notches with a beautifully sung homage to his hometown Glasgow. His rakish accent underscores the working class nature of his hometown – a night out in the Gorbals has never been sung about so beautifully. In 2008, Campbell performed at the iTunes store in Glasgow. Watch out for him in 2009, when he'll tour extensively around the UK and Europe. |

Pure Danish dynamite. These long seismic compositions ooze with creeping atmosphere. They're deep, dark and retrospective, and at the same time engaging and uplifting. Danish newspaper Politikken says they're like "black coffee after hot sex in the afternoon." Let the warm beats fill your body. Key Tracks: "Sweeter than Sweet," "Lulu’s Theme feat. Trentemøller". |

Luomo’s beats are addictive, unique, ever evolving, and this time, even more daring. On 'Convivial', he leaps into the flamboyant decadent pop world like a ballet dancer on a high wire. He strikes the perfect balance between flash, glamour, and the sexy, sophisticated, and unpredictable sounds of cerebral '80s electro / techno / glitch pop, all with the help of guest stars Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), Apparat, and Robert Owens. |

Jeff Healey was arguably one of the most distinctive guitar players of our time. Blind since early childhood due to a rare form of cancer, Healey began playing guitar flat across his lap, "accidentally" devising a signature style that he used while performing alongside legends like B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and George Harrison. In late 2007, Healey recorded his final album 'Mess Of Blues' with longstanding friends and musicians whom Healey considered "the best damned bar band in Canada.” Following a lengthy struggle with cancer, Healey sadly passed away on Sunday March 2, 2008 in Toronto. |

One of the most haunting, captivating, outstandingly beautiful albums we’ve heard all year! According to the former Suede frontman, his goal was to “create a beautiful suite of songs untethered by second-guessing markets and playlists and music biz bullshit.” we'd say he succeeded! Its breathtaking simplicity (voice, strings, and piano) is very intense and sets it apart from the mainstream. 'Wilderness' is an album that Brett Anderson had to make at this point in his life: “I have never been more confident and focused about what I am doing as an artist.” |
